Reaction to “Reaching the Internet Generation”

I felt that Jean Twenge highlighted the negatives that technology has given the iGen. I do agree that our generation is probably not fully ready for the really world at the point in time she is describing which is just going into college, but I feel that all generations, especially the more recent generations, as they are not forced into new situations as early as in the past.  The older generations did have these moments of doubt and struggle, but they had these experiences at a younger age than what the recent generations have. She also highlighted that the past generations had more experiences and were more ready for the world than the recent generations, but she also showed that more kids under 18 are less willing to drink which is not a bad thing so that could mean that the recent generations have higher morals or standards than older generations. Yes, the recent generations may not be as ready as the past generations as of right now, but it is primarily due to the fact that the education life of each individual is being slowed due to the increase in education and I do not think it is a bad thing. I feel that all generations had their strong points and flaws and that their will never be that perfect generation that no one can criticize in some way.

    Hi, Andrew,
Your comment about generations developing at a different pace is important. Both you and Twenge would agree that some of these behavioral changes may be improvements. AS we continue to explore the impacts of technology on our world, I look forward to hearing more of your ideas and impressions of the positives and negatives of changing behaviors. Thanks for your post!
